Scalable Memory Interconnect Solutions
SMI Logic Analyzer Interface for Digital Validation
Nexus Technology SMI-LAI products allow for logic analyzer acquisition and analysis of SMI-LAI links (Scalable Memory Interconnect - Logic Analyzer Interface). This interface allows for acquisition of SMI-LAI channel traffic for command, address, read and write data analysis of SMI DDR3 traffic.
SMI Logic Analyzer Interface
The core of the SMI-LAI solution is the NEX-SMILAI which provides a quick and easy connection to interface a logic analyzer to two, 240-pin, DDR3 memory slots to probe one SMI channel in SMI-LAI mode (logic analyzer interface mode). Also included with this product is the logic analyzer setup software. Tektronix refers to this as a support package which provides everything necessary to quickly and easily configure your logic analyzer, setup logic analyzer acquisition, setup the logic analyzer trigger/storage, and decode the acquired data.
SMI DDR3 Protocol Violation Analysis
There's a BIG difference between protocol decode and protocol violation analysis. Protocol decoding provides a static tabulation of command and address bus activity. This functionality is made available through the logic analyzer listing window using the Nexus Technology SMI support package/setup software. Performing a very different and powerful set of tasks, protocol violation analysis analyzes the entire logic analyzer memory, compiling statistical information and error reporting based on every command acquired.
This provides a global picture of the activity on the bus and - more importantly - analyzes every command to see that the protocol adheres to the JEDEC specification. Please see the NEX-DDR-PROTOCOL product page for more information.
SMI Configuration Support
Nexus Technology provides all the hardware and software necessary to configure and program the SMI-LAI channel registers and the SMI channel Global Event Bus.
SMI Configuration Connection
Connection to the SMI configuration SMBus, SMI Event Bus I/O, and SMI-LAI
mode are provided through an Nexus Technology NEX-SMIAUX
adapter. Each NEX-SMIAUX supports one or two SMI channels.
Up to eight NEX-SMIAUX adapters can be attached to a single Nexus Technology NEX-SMICOM which provides an interface for all eight adapters to a standard Microsoft Windows computer for easy SMI configuration. The NEX-SMICOM product comes with one NEX-SMIAUX adapter for connection to one or two SMI channels. NEX-SMIAUX are also available separately for configuration support for three or more SMI channels.
Non-Standard Connection
Some customers may not use the standard SMI cLGA
configuration connection. For customers using the optional 3M
81026-600C07 SMI configuration connection, Nexus Technology
provides the NEX-SMICLGA-CABLE adapter to interface to the
NEX-SMIAUX.
SMI Cross Channel Triggering Support
Nexus Technology supports the SMI cross channel triggering
feature via the NEX-SMICOM configuration software and an NEX-SMIEVT cable. This
cable connects the Global Event Bus of two SMI channel pairs and
enables the cross triggering functionality.
